North East of England Branch

The North East of England Branch representing psychologists across the North East of England extending from the River Tweed to the Wash and from Hull to the borders of Lancashire.

About

The North East of England Branch officially came into being on 4 February 2003 when an open general meeting was held at York St John College to elect the committee and formally constitute our existence as part of the society.

We have since worked tirelessly to promote the great work of Psychologists across the North East and to ensure our members have representation at all levels of the society.

Our committee, which includes academic psychologists, practitioners and students, works to organise a range of events across the North East.

Our Psychology in the Pub events have grown in frequency and popularity and our Annual Conference goes from strength to strength.

The gradual expansion of the North East Branch Bulletin publication, which is sent out to all our members, is a great representation of the exciting work that’s going on across the North East.

If you’d like to contribute to the North East Branch Bulletin, have an idea for an event or you’d like to get involved with other Branch activities, please contact us at [email protected].

North East of England Branch Public Engagement Award

Overview

This award has been established to recognise and reward British Psychological Society (BPS) members who undertake excellent communication of psychology with the public in the North East of England. The awards are open to nominations for psychologists at any career stage. Applications are encouraged from early career psychologists who may have undertaken a small engagement project, as well as more experienced psychologists.

The focus of the award is on public engagement in the North-East of England.

Nominations are welcome from BPS members who are not based in the North-East of England but whose work is delivered to publics in the North-East.

Nominations can be made for a specific one-off engagement project or a number of linked projects.  Nominations can be made by a third party, such as a colleague or a client, or individuals can self-nominate. Third party nominators should ensure that they have sufficient knowledge of the public engagement project to make a convincing case to the judging panel.

Conflicts of Interest:

Nominators must declare all personal and professional conflicts of interest, for example if nominating a colleague, spouse, partner or other relation. Conflicts of interest will not prevent acceptance of the nomination, but will be borne in mind by the awarding panel when considering the award.
